Chamba: Priyanshi Joshi, a gifted athlete hailing from Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, has made headlines at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, which took place in Gaya, Bihar. She secured a bronze medal in the Martial Art Thang-Ta event, showcasing her talent among a competitive field of 128 athletes from 25 states between May 12 and May 14, 2025.
Competing in the 56 kg weight class, Priyanshi's outstanding performance earned her a bronze medal, a proud moment for her district. This event marked a significant occasion in the sporting calendar, and her success is celebrated as a major achievement for Chamba.
Upon her return, Priyanshi received a warm welcome from the community, including members of the Thang-Ta Association and fellow athletes, who adorned her with flower garlands as a gesture of appreciation. Bhuvaneshwar Katoch, a local resident and technical official at the event, was also present to celebrate her victory.
Accompanied by traditional drum music, Priyanshi and her supporters visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where Mukesh Repswal congratulated her on her remarkable accomplishment. In a media interaction, Priyanshi expressed her joy and pride in representing her city and family on a national platform. She stated, “I am extremely glad that I was able to bring honor to my city and family by winning the bronze medal in Thang-Ta. I believe that with the right support, I have the potential to bring home a gold medal in the future.”
However, she highlighted the lack of adequate training facilities for Thang-Ta in Himachal Pradesh and urged the government to enhance infrastructure to help athletes like her reach their full potential. Coach Bhuvaneshwar Katoch echoed her sentiments, advocating for the establishment of a dedicated training center in the region. “I request the government to set up a training facility where children can practice regularly. This will allow more athletes from Chamba to excel and bring glory to Himachal Pradesh in future competitions,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal expressed pride in Priyanshi’s achievement, stating, “I am very happy that Priyanshi Joshi from Chamba has earned a bronze medal in Thang-Ta at the Khelo India Youth Games, bringing great honor to the district. I congratulate her and wish her further success. We will consider the requests made by the association, and I assure them that necessary facilities will be provided soon.”
Priyanshi’s success is not just a personal victory but also a reflection of the potential of young athletes in Chamba, demonstrating that with the right support, they can excel on both national and international stages.
