Ranchi: The district education department has taken a significant step towards implementing the National Education Policy 2020 by setting up the District Level Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) exploration-cum-coordination committee. The committee, comprising 10 experienced educators from across the district, aims to strengthen foundational education through innovative teaching methods.
Formed under the direction of DC Manjunath Bhajantri, the committee is chaired by district education superintendent Badal Raj and coordinated by Om Prakash Mishra, the head teacher of RPV Murum, Kanke. The primary focus is to make learning more engaging and meaningful through the "learning by doing" approach.
The committee's key responsibilities include simplifying the monthly syllabus set by the Jharkhand Council of Education Research and Training. It will emphasise the use of cost-effective, locally produced teaching-learning materials (TLMs) and promote child-centric teaching methodologies, incorporating audiovisual tools and regional resources. To achieve its target and improve educational outcomes, the committee will conduct regular teacher training sessions, assess student learning levels, and organize TLM exhibitions and fairs.
"Our focus is from Classes I to V, aiming to enhance literacy, numeracy and environmental awareness," said district superintendent of education Raj.
Additionally, a separate monitoring committee has been established to track student attendance and enrolment. This body will investigate cases of poor attendance, identify underlying causes of absenteeism and implement measures to ensure regular school attendance, thereby supporting the overall educational objectives of the district.
