Mikel Arteta will be determined to return to winning ways when Arsenal face Villarreal. The Gunners suffered their first defeat of pre-season last week, losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the first ever overseas North London Derby.
Arsenal had previously enjoyed wins against AC Milan and Newcastle during their tour of Asia, with Max Dowman catching the eye, and Martin Zubimendi making his long-awaited debut. However, the Gunners were no match for Spurs, with Pape Matar Sarr proving to be the difference.
The new Premier League campaign is on the horizon, so Arteta will be keen to build some momentum in Arsenal's final pre-season clashes. Before the Gunners take on rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17, they'll face Villarreal and Athletic Club.
So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up everything you need to know about the first of Arsenal's two upcoming friendlies;

Arteta provides promising Arsenal injury updateSpeaking to reporters following Arsenal's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, in Hong Kong last week, Arteta provided an injury update on Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber.
On whether the trio will be available in time for the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign, the Gunners boss said: "They've been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel, Calafoiri, Timber, the three of them will be available."
On Leandro Trossard, who has been nursing an injury, Arteta said: "He felt a little tweak, I think he tried to turn and he was pushed and he felt something muscular so we'll have to assess him."

On Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was absent from the matchday squad, Arteta said: "He felt something as well in the game against Newcastle. I think it's a matter of days probably - if that was in the Premier League he could have played but we decided not to take a risk."
And, on his current assessment of the squad ahead of the Villarreal clash, Arteta said: "I'm very positive, everything that I've seen in the last 10 days gives me a lot of encouragement and we're ahead of what I was expecting in many areas.
"Even though tonight's result gives you a taste, I think that is going to be very positive as well. To realise the margins that winning or not winning have to be controlled as well and again, we go again.
"We'll start on Monday again with two great games at the Emirates to finalise preparation and be ready for Old Trafford..."
