PM Internship Scheme: Shocking information has come to light about the first and second phases of the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS). According to the report, a large number of students applied for this internship and also accepted the offers, but only 6 percent of the students started the internship. This information was given by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Parliament on Wednesday.
Let us tell you that the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024-25. The objective is to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in the top 500 companies of the country in five years. The pilot project of this scheme was started on October 3, 2024, with a target of providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in a year.
87000 joined the internship
According to the information given by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in Round-1, companies had invited applications for more than 1.27 lakh internships. For which 1.81 lakh candidates applied for 6.21 lakh. Out of these, 1.53 lakh internship offers were made. But only about 87000 candidates joined the internship. According to the report, the offer acceptance rate was around 33% and the joining rate was 6%.
PM Internship Scheme Round-2 Report
The second round of the PM Internship Scheme pilot project, launched on January 9, 2025, saw participation from about 327 partner companies, who collectively provided more than 1.18 lakh internship opportunities in 735 districts across the country. This included both newly introduced and previously vacant positions. More than 4.55 lakh applications were received from more than 2.14 lakh interested trainees in this round. As of July 17, 2025, these partner companies have made more than 71,000 internship offers, of which more than 22,500 have already been accepted. The process of issuing proposals and onboarding trainees is currently underway.
