Under the CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child, girls scoring at least 60% marks in Class 10 are eligible to receive a monthly stipend — for up to two years — provided they meet one major condition.

What Is the CBSE Merit Scholarship for Single Girl Child?

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, launched this scholarship to promote education among girl children. If a girl secures 60% or more in her CBSE Class 10 exams and continues her studies in Class 11 and 12 in a CBSE-affiliated school, she will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹500, directly credited to her bank account.

However, there’s a key eligibility criterion: the applicant must be the only child (no siblings) in the family. This initiative is part of the larger mission to support the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign and encourage higher education among girls.

Key Features of the Scheme

• ₹500 per month scholarship for up to 2 years

• Open to Indian citizens only, including NRI applicants (with different conditions)

• No income limit for eligibility

• Girls can avail other scholarships along with this one

• The scheme is only for students of CBSE-affiliated schools

• Annual tuition fee should not exceed ₹1,500/month (₹6,000/month for NRI students)

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicant must be a single girl child (no brothers or sisters)

• Must have secured at least 60% in Class 10 CBSE Board exams

• Must be enrolled in Class 11–12 in a CBSE-recognized school

• Tuition fee must be ≤ ₹1,500/month (for Indian applicants)

• Tuition fee should not increase by more than 10% in the next two years

• NRI applicants: tuition fee must be ≤ ₹6,000/month

Selection Process

Candidate must submit an affidavit (as per CBSE format), attested by a First Class Magistrate/SDM/Executive Magistrate/Notary.

Submit an undertaking from the school principal (where the student is currently studying).

Fill out the online application form on the official CBSE portal with the required documents.

Application Process (Step-by-Step)
