But now this amount has been increased to Rs 15 lakh. The new system has been implemented from the back date, i.e., 1 April 2025. Meaning, if an employee dies on or after this date, then his family will get ₹ 15 lakh instead of ₹ 8.8 lakh. This decision has also been approved by the Central Board of Trustees, the largest board of EPFO, which includes representatives of the government, the employer, and the employee.

The ex gratia amount will increase every year.
This increase in the amount will not be done just once. EPFO has also decided that starting from April 1, 2026, this ex gratia will increase by 5 percent every year. With this, the financial help given to the families will continue to increase over time. This news is especially good for those families who face financial difficulties after losing their family members. Keeping this in mind, EPFO has decided to further strengthen the help for the families.

The claim process is made easy for minor children.

Another important change is that now, if a PF member dies and the money has to go to the account of his minor children, then there will be no need for a Guardianship Certificate. This will now make it much easier for minor children to claim money than before. Earlier, due to the guardianship certificate, the claim used to get delayed, and the families had to face problems. Now, with the removal of this rule, the money will be available quickly, and the families will get relief.

Financial security of families will be strengthened
This step has been taken by EPFO to strengthen the financial security of the families of the employees. With an increase of Rs 15 lakh and then an annual increase of 5 percent, families will now get better help. Additionally, improvements in the claims process will make it easier to receive money on time.
