Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], October 22 (ANI): Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar visited a hospital in Siliguri to meet BJP MP Khagen Murmu on Wednesday. He said that he was recovering slowly and advised him to have a check-up at AIIMS, New Delhi, after being released.
MP Murmu was reportedly attacked by some locals while he was visiting flood-affected areas in Jalpaiguri's Dooars region in West Bengal on October 6 to oversee relief and rescue operations, whereupon, he sustained serious injuries to the head.
Speaking to reporters, Sukanta Majumdar said, "Today I met Khagen Murmu. He is recovering slowly, the part where he was hit is very sensitive and every time it moves due to chewing or talking. As a result, it is taking some time to recover. So, I feel within a few days, he will be released from this hospital and after that, I have advised him to have a check-up at AIIMS New Delhi so that some other observations can be treated properly."
According to the Jalpaiguri police, four persons were arrested in connection with the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu & Siliguri BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh.
Earlier, on October 18, BJP MP Saumitra Khan visited the hospital in Siliguri to meet BJP MP Khagen Murmu. He condemned the attack on the BJP MP and said that the mentality of the TMC is to make the "poor poorer".
Speaking to ANI, the BJP MP said, "The attack is condemnable. BJP MP Khagen Murmu is fine now. He is receiving good treatment here. In North Bengal, medical facilities are dismal. The mentality of the TMC is to make the poor poorer, but the BJP MP Khagen Murmu went there to provide relief to the people affected by floods. BJP will carry out its agenda in Bengal, and SIR will soon be conducted. In Kashmir, people used to say Article 370 won't be abrogated but it was done."
BJP leader Anirban Ganguly claimed that the alleged assault on the BJP MP Khagen Murmu and the BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh at Bamandanga in Jalpaiguri's Nagrakata on October 6 was very "pre-planned" and called for a deeper investigation into the incident.
The attack happened when both leaders were visiting the North Bengal region to oversee relief and rescue operations amid a landslide and flood situation. This sparked a political row in the State, with the BJP taking aim at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). (ANI)
