Mumbai continued to grapple with heavy rainfall under red alert on Wednesday. The city's local train services faced widespread cancellations due to severe waterlogging across the city and several trains have been cancelled.
Authorities have advised commuters to check schedules and plan travel in advance.
However, the Central Railway confirmed that suburban train services are now operational on all lines, with the harbour line also restored after disruptions caused by waterlogging on Tuesday, PTI reported.
According to TOI, at least 21 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Maharashtra in the past five days; while ET reported that eight have died in Mumbai.
Monorail resumes
The city’s Monorail services were restored late Tuesday, hours after two trains were stranded between stations due to a power failure. More than 700 passengers had to be rescued, according to officials.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said overcrowding triggered the disruption, as many commuters turned to the Monorail after local train services were hit by the downpour.

Air travel remained under stress, with IndiGo issuing a travel advisory for the third consecutive day.
The airline warned passengers of possible delays due to air traffic congestion and urged travellers to check flight status online and allow extra travel time to the airport given the risk of waterlogging and traffic snarls.
BMC debunks school closure rumours
Amid the alerts, a message circulating on social media claimed that all schools and colleges in Mumbai and the suburbs would remain closed on Wednesday.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) dismissed the message as fake, clarifying in an official statement on X that no such directive had been issued.
“This message is fake. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has not issued any such information through its official social media platforms," BMC wrote in an official.
