India has dropped to the 85th position in the 2025 Henley Passport Index, giving Indian passport holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 57 countries. This marks a decline of five spots from last year, when Indians could travel to 62 destinations without a visa. India’s best ranking was 71st in 2006, reflecting shifts in global mobility over the years.
The Henley Passport Index ranks passports worldwide based on the number of countries holders can enter without a prior visa. Updated monthly with data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the index evaluates 199 passports across 227 destinations.
While India’s passport ranking has slipped, there are still numerous countries and territories offering hassle-free travel for Indian citizens. These include popular vacation destinations, neighbouring countries, and lesser-known locations.
