"His game keeps him dedicated": IPL star Priyansh Arya's mother after his maiden century score for Punjab Kings

Left-handed opener Priyansh Arya put on a sensational display of strokeplay to notch up his maiden IPL century against the Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old brought up his ton in just 39 balls — the fastest ever against the Super Kings and tied with Travis Head as the fourth-fastest century in IPL history. Among Indian batters, only Yusuf Pathan has reached the milestone quicker, making Arya’s knock the second-fastest by an Indian in the tournament.

Following his victorious performance, Priyansh Arya's mother told the media that he was focused on his game from his childhood. "I am very happy with his innings and I hope he continues to play in this manner. He has worked hard since he was a kid and always remains disciplined, which has helped him reach this stage through his discipline and hard work. He does not pay attention to anything but his game which keeps him dedicated," the mother of the 24 year old cricketer, Radha Bala Arya told news agency PTI.

Priyansh first grabbed headlines when he hammered six sixes in an over during the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), finishing the tournament with 608 runs in 10 innings at a staggering strike rate of 198.69. His dominant run included two centuries and four fifties.

With IPL scouts closely following the tournament, Priyansh’s clean hitting—particularly his knack for sending the ball straight down the ground—caught widespread attention. He was soon invited to pre-auction trials by all franchises before eventually being snapped up by PBKS for ₹3.8 crore.

"I'm not expressive but getting a very good feeling from within. In the last game, Shreyas Iyer talked about backing your instincts, he suggested me to play the way I want to. I was thinking that if I get the first ball in my slot, I will definitely hit it for a six," Arya said after his impressive performance. "I want to express myself as much as I can and not restrict myself."

The 2001 born cricketer, was born in Delhi. His parents are school teachers. He has been trained under coach Sanjay Bharadwaj.
