These days, stress has become a part of our lifestyle. Be it work pressure or worries about family, people fall prey to stress due to many reasons. This is the reason why stress has become a common mental health problem these days. Usually, stress is considered a brain problem, but what if we say that it is also connected to your genes, hormones and energy.

Is stress also genetic?
You will be surprised to know that stress can also be in your DNA. Yes, you heard it right. Dr. Vineet Banga, Director of Neurology at Fortis Hospital, Faridabad, says that about 80% of Indians experience regular stress, which is more common in women. Usually, this happens due to changing lifestyle, but stress is not just about what happens to you.
It is also about how your brain and body react. Research also shows that some hidden genetic traits, called endophenotypes, are responsible for the stress we experience every day.
Signs that show that your stress is genetic
Being sensitive to criticism or conflict
If you are one of those people who get upset for hours or days over small criticisms, then your stress may be different from normal stress. This is a sign that you are suffering from genetic stress.
Difficulty in focusing when stressed
If you face difficulty in concentrating, taking decisions or completing your work during stress, then it may indicate genetic stress.
Having physical reactions even to minor stress
If minor stress makes your heart beat faster, you sweat or you feel tired after minor stressful things, then it shows that your stress is genetic.
How to manage stress
Be physically active- Exercise won't make your stress disappear, but it can reduce your emotional intensity, clear your thoughts, and help you deal with your problems calmly.
Take help from your loved ones- Take help from your colleagues, friends, and family. A good support network of loved ones can reduce your work problems and help you see things from a different perspective.
Take time for yourself- Most people work for long hours these days. In such a situation, take some time for yourself apart from work and other things and do something that you like.
Challenge yourself- Set new goals and challenges for yourself, whether at work or outside. For this, you can learn a new language or start a new activity. This will increase your confidence and can help you deal with stress.
Avoid unhealthy habits- Do not depend on alcohol, smoking, and caffeine to deal with your stress. All these are unhealthy things, which spoil both mental and physical health.
