The growing problems of mental health have become a cause of serious concern for health experts globally. In recent decades, people's awareness about mental health has increased. Be it stress, anxiety, or depression, millions of people are being diagnosed with it every year around the world. Health experts say this is becoming a serious challenge because people of younger age, even those under the age of 20, are being found to be victims of mental health problems.

According to the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), every 8th person globally is suffering from some mental problem. Conditions like hectic life, social media pressure, loneliness, financial stress, and emotional imbalance inadvertently put a burden on our minds.
But have you ever thought that some people may be at higher risk of mental health problems? Recent research has revealed that people born in certain months may be slightly more at risk of mental problems.
Risk of mental health problems in people born in summer
In a research published in the journal PulseOne, the team of researchers said that men born in the summer months (especially June, July, and August) may be at a higher risk of depression than others. This research was done by a researcher at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Canada.
The team of scientists wanted to investigate whether children born in a particular season are at a higher risk of developing mental health problems like depression and anxiety in the future. Although the sample size of this study is quite small, its results are worth considering.
What did the research reveal?
For this study, the team of researchers studied a sample of 303 people, which included 106 men and 197 women; their average age was 26 years. These people were evaluated on PHQ-9 (for depression) and GAD-7 (for anxiety). PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are tools used to determine mental health problems.
With the help of this assessment, an attempt was made to detect common mental health problems in people. Apart from this, the month of birth of the participants was also taken into account during the research. In the conclusion of this research, symptoms of depression were seen in 84 percent of the participants, and stress in 66 percent of the participants.
On analyzing the data, the researchers concluded that although the problem of stress was not associated with any particular season, its effect was seen in people with depression. It was found that 78 men born in summer were diagnosed with mild to severe depression in the PHQ-9 test. In comparison, these symptoms were less common in 67 people born in winter, 58 born in spring and 68 born in autumn.
What do the researchers say?
The lead author of the study, Arshdeep Kaur, concluded that early developmental conditions at the time of birth (such as exposure to light, temperature, or maternal health during pregnancy) have an impact on mental health.
Studies show that exposure to seasonal illnesses such as the flu during pregnancy or childhood may also increase the risk of developing certain mental health conditions, including depression.

Health experts said that ecosystems have a special impact during the developmental age of children. This study has seen an impact on the future mental health of children born during summer. However, we need more detailed research to verify this.
