Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister Sajjan Singh Verma has strongly criticised the state government’s ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ campaign, accusing it of ignoring the poor condition of roads and shifting the responsibility of safety onto citizens.
A video of him speaking is going viral on social media. He himself shared the video on his official X handle.

।#indore #इंदौर #helmet pic.twitter.com/flRZK9YDj1

Speaking to the media, Verma said, “The BJP government has failed to fix pothole-filled roads. Now, instead of repairing them, it is asking people to wear helmets to protect themselves.
The potholes are not going anywhere.” He added that such decisions are being made to hide the government’s lack of attention to basic infrastructure.
Verma further mocked the practicality of the campaign, saying that if the government plans to make helmet-wearing compulsory for all, it would take four months just to arrange 13 lakh helmets.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav Calls For ‘No Helmet, No Liquor’ Rule Amid Ongoing Safety Campaign; WATCH VIDEOHe called the move an eyewash, aimed at distracting the public from real issues like bad roads, traffic jams, and poor civic services.
His comments come amid rising debate over helmet rules in Indore, especially after the city enforced 'No Helmet, No Petrol' and 'No Helmet, No Entry' regulations.
While the administration says it is a step towards safety, the opposition sees it as a cover-up for failing infrastructure.
