Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On the auspicious occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the revered and justice-loving ruler of the Malwa region, the Government of India (GoI) will release a commemorative coin of Rs 300 denomination.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to unveil the coin during a function in Bhopal on May 31.
The Union Finance Ministry issued a notification regarding the commemorative coin on Thursday, May 22. The coin will not be circulated as legal tender but will be available for collectors and the public through the Kolkata Mint of the Government of India.
MP Shankar Lalwani confirmed the possibility of PM Modi releasing the coin in person during the anniversary celebrations.
The initiative began with a formal request made by Vishwam Social Welfare Society in June 2023. Paras Jain, the president of the society, and Ashok Jain, its treasurer, played pivotal roles in advocating for the commemorative coin. The society promotes social, religious, and cultural awareness.
The Rs 300 coin will weigh 35 grams and be composed of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc. It will have a circumference of 44 mm and feature 200 jagged edges.
Design highlights:
Front side: A portrait of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, with "300" (in Hindi) on the upper circumference and "300th Birth Anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar" (in English) on the lower. The years "1725–2025" will flank the portrait, with "2025" inscribed below.
Reverse side: The denomination “Rs 300” beneath the Ashoka Pillar emblem, with “300” (in Hindi) on the left and “India” on the right.
Though the coin carries a face value of Rs 300, its collectible version—due to the silver content—is estimated to be priced around Rs 4,000 and will be available for booking through the Government of India Mint's website.
