Cole Palmer aims three-word dig at Donald Trump after gatecrashing Chelsea celebrations

Cole Palmer was left "confused" after Donald Trump gatecrashed Chelsea's Club World Cup celebrations. Palmer was the star of the show on the field, netting a brace and assisting Joao Pedro as Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.

However, Trump threatened to overshadow the post-match celebrations as he handed over the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James and then refused to leave the stage. Palmer looked baffled by Trump's actions and appeared to ask: "What's he doing?"

James, meanwhile, also seemed confused by Trump's decision to remain on stage and before hoisting the trophy aloft he appeared to ask: "Are you going to leave?" Even FIFA president Gianni Infantino attempted to get Trump to leave, but he refused.

And Palmer later admitted: "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yeah."

Defender Levi Colwill added: "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay."

Trump was booed by sections of the fans inside the MetLife Stadium and conducted an interview with broadcaster DAZN where he hailed the tournament, saying: "It's a big thing, Gianni's a friend of mine.

"But it's great to watch. This is a little bit of an upset we're watching today. [FIFA has done] fantastically well, it's a growing sport, it's a great sport."

However, Trump did eventually fade into the background and Chelsea were able to celebrate their triumph. "Obviously it's a great feeling, even better because everyone doubted us before the game," Palmer added.

"We knew that and to go out there and put a fight on like we did against a great team, yes, it's good. The gaffer put a great gameplan out.

"Obviously he knew where the space was going to be and he tried to free me up as much as possible, and I just had to repay him and score some goals.

"He's building something special, something important with a young team. Everyone's talked a lot of s*** about us all season, but I feel like we’re going in the right direction."
