An American in the UK shared how one word has many meanings here, to the extent that it's become a "lifestyle" for many Brits without them even realising it. TikTok user@kjordyyy, who lives in London after leaving America, said that "sorry" is not just a word; it's also "a lifestyle, a reflex, and sometimes, a threat".
He joked many Brits "wield this word like a Swiss army knife," as he walked over to his whiteboard, which read "decodingBritish slang 101" ready to teach a lesson to Brits and non-Brits about the several meanings of the word "sorry".
1. The polite panicThe American said the first meaning is the "polite panic". He joked the translation of this is: "I existed in your vicinity and I'm deeply sorry."

- Coca Cola fans are only just noticing 'hidden message' in iconic logo
He added: "You're at the Asda and accidentally bump someone - oops, sorry!"
WARNING: The video below contains strong language that some viewers may find offensive.
He explained he accidentally hit an old lady when he was in the supermarket and before he could even react she'd said sorry to him; despite the fact she'd done nothing wrong. @kjordyyy said he was "baffled" the woman apologised to him.
However, it's something many Brits will be able to relate to, because we're just too darn polite.
2. The questionHe said the next is: "Sorry?" and you should "notice the emphasis on the question mark".
"This is the passive-aggressive sniper. They're not really sorry; they just want you to know that you messed up. You see this very commonly among the Clapham Common brunch crowd.
"You may be walking into Waitrose and you're in the way, they'll hit you with the 'sorry?' Like, no, they're not sorry. You want them to know get your a** out of the way," he explained.
He also said it "may or may not come with a subtle eye roll after" as well.
3. The aggressive oneHe joked this one "needs an exclamation point".
"This is the explosive deflection when someone insults you. For example, your mrs walks out of the dressing room and says 'does she look fat in this dress' and like the honest king you are, you go 'yeah'," he explained.
This is when you'd get a 'sorry?!'
He said it's similar to "say it again" or "come again," saying you've "probably p***** someone off or offended them" if you hear a sorry like this.
The social media user urged you to "not repeat what you said" if you hear a sorry in this tone, or "say never mind, because you will get in trouble" if you choose to say what you initially said again.
Then @kjordyyy joked he was "learning from experience" with this one.
"So the next time someone says sorry ask yourself are they truly apologising, or are they plotting?" he ended the video by asking.
