Mum and daughter battered woman in 'completely pointless' attack in front of her son

A mum and her daughter battered another woman in the street during a broad daylight attack in front of her seven-year-old son after a "screaming match".

Carlean Brown, 41, and her daughter Brodie-Leigh Brown, 22, beat their victim in a "nasty, prolonged, and completely pointless" attack on Tarbock Road in Speke, Liverpool, on October 13, 2024. Footage from a Ring doorbell played at Liverpool Crown Court today captured the moment the confrontation began, with Brodie-Leigh and her neighbour Madina Wady seen shouting at one another.

The altercation quickly escalated, with Brodie-Leigh seen lunging at Ms Wady and dragging her to the ground, where they grappled with one another as Ms Wady's young son watched on.

The Liverpool Echo reports the footage also captured the moment Brown emerged from the home before leaping into the fray, and kicking Ms Wady - still lying on the ground - twice in the head.

Brodie-Leigh was "scratching at [Ms Wady's] eyes and hitting her to the face", prosecutor Ian Criddle told the court. Mr Criddle said the altercation began when Brodie-Leigh was "abusive in the street", and that Ms Wady had responded to her in kind before violence flared.

He said: "The victim was with her son when outside her home they came across Brodie-Leigh Brown. Brodie-Leigh was abusive in the street and Ms Wady responded in kind, and that can be heard. As a result of this, Brodie-Leigh can be seen on the footage approaching Ms Wady, and they start fighting in the street.

"Ms Wady was then knocked to the floor and Brodie-Leigh was scratching at her eyes and hitting her to the face." The prosecutor added: "It's at this point Carlean Brown became involved.

"She can be seen running out of the house carrying something, either a pole or a hammer, which she can be seen to put down on the floor before joining in the attack on Ms Wady. She can be seen to kick on two occasions to the head." The court heard that, following the attack, the mum and daughter smashed Ms Wady's mobile phone and hurled her bag across the ground.

Mr Criddle said the victim left Tarbock Road "as a direct result of this incident", adding she was "concerned for her son who was worried about his safety, given the incident he witnessed of his mum being attacked."

Carlean Brown, of Newman Street, Kirkdale, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and possession of an offensive weapon. Brodie-Leigh Brown, of Upton Green, Speke, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and criminal damage. Brodie-Leigh has no prior convictions.

Brodie-Leigh Brown was sentenced to an 18 month community order and 15 rehabilitation days. Judge Simon Medland said Brodie-Leigh had committed "a really unpleasant act of violence in the street".

He added: "It was nasty and prolonged and completely pointless. In the first instance you, Brodie-Leigh, having got into a screaming match with your neighbour, pulled her down and started fighting her on the pavement.

"Your mother then came out with a hammer and proceeded to kick that poor woman on the ground twice to the head. For most of this, the victim's son was present. You ought, the pair of you, to be completely ashamed of your behaviour. Any right thinking person, looking at that, would be very sad indeed that on the streets of Liverpool we have to see things like that happening."

Carlean Brown was sentenced to a total of six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and 30 rehabilitation days. Both women have been ordered to pay £120 to the victim, and given restraining orders banning them from contacting her.
