Myleene Klass has revealed she stepped into action to save someone's life after they became critically ill at Brighton Pride. The presenter, 47, had taken on a job at the Pride celebrations with St John's Ambulance.
She has been an ambassador for the charity since March last year and was able to step in during a time of need. The incident happened during the Sugababes' headline show at Preston Park in the city.
Myleene was among the first to respond at the festival and performed a procedure called a "jaw thrust". A jaw thrust is a technique used to open a person's airway, particularly when there's a risk of spinal injury and head tilt is to be avoided. It comes after Kerry Katona reveals her devastating health condition after split from ex-fiancé.
The Hear'Say singer decided to film her reaction following the incident as she heaped praise on her colleagues and St John's Ambulance service.
"You can probably hear the Sugababes are on in the background, and I've just helped save a life," she said. "It was honestly awe-inspiring seeing how St John Ambulance operated. We have doctors and paramedics. Everyone is here. Everyone just did their bit."
Myleene shared the man had to be taken to hospital. "I cannot divulge what happened with the patient, what the circumstances are but what I can say is I am utterly blown away and just to have been a small part of it as well," she shared.
"I actually just had to do the procedure that is known as a jaw thrust - that gives you an indication as to how serious the scenario was. The patient is on their way to the hospital right now."
In her caption, Myleene added the importance of knowing first aid and how she felt to be a part of the team to help the man in need. She explained: "Due to patient confidentially, I cannot divulge more except that watching a group of determined, dedicated, professional @stjohn_ambulance volunteers of varying ages spring into action with one goal, to save this person was extremely moving.
"If you don’t know basic first aid or need a refresher course, this is your sign to book in with SJA today. I only knew what to do because THEY trained me."
Myleene revealed that while she doesn't have "the extensive professional expertise" as some of her colleagues, she had the confidence to act when needed.
Sadly, this wasn't the first time Myleene needed to step into action to save a life. Earlier this year, she recalled the harrowing experience of her daughter, Hero, turning blue and collapsingdue to choking on a plastic star.
Her decision to join St John's Ambulance came from saving her daughter. Recounting the distressing event, Myleene said: "Well, it was Hero when she was a baby.
"She choked on those... you know those dayglo stars that you stick on the ceiling? I can't have them in the house." When asked on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast whether the star had fallen from the ceiling, Myleene clarified: "She found it.
"She couldn't speak—she was so little. She couldn't even... well, she couldn't speak because she was choking, but she couldn't even vocalise what had happened."
Myleene endured what she described as the "longest five minutes of my life" as she tried to get the star out of Hero's mouth. She explained that the star didn’t come out immediately, but Hero eventually vomited it up and casually "toddled off", while Myleene was left in a state of hysteria.
The NHS has a detailed guide on their website on how to respond in such situations, including instructions for administering back blows, chest thrusts, and abdominal thrusts, as well as steps to take if a child becomes unconscious.
