Union Minister Jayant Singh Chaudhary has commended Kerala for its impressive educational achievements and suggested that the state’s education practices could serve as a national example. During his visit to Malappuram, he remarked that the quality and innovation seen in Kerala’s education system offer valuable lessons for other states in India.
He noted that Kerala maintains a very high standard of education and that several progressive initiatives are already in place. According to him, these innovations should not remain confined to the state but should be examined for possible implementation across the country.
The minister especially highlighted the performance of the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) in Malappuram, calling it a consistently top-performing institution as recognized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He emphasized the government’s intention to study such effective models and apply their successful elements to the 289 JSS centers operating nationwide, including the nine located within Kerala.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan is a government initiative aimed at providing skill development opportunities to underprivileged groups, such as school dropouts, those with minimal formal education, and economically weaker individuals. The program offers vocational training in areas like tailoring, computer literacy, beauty services, carpentry, mobile repair, and other trades that can lead to employment or self-sufficiency.
The broader goals of the JSS scheme include empowering marginalized communities such as women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities. It also aims to set up skill centers in rural areas and urban slums, promoting livelihood opportunities through non-formal education and the integration of basic literacy with practical life skills.
By recognizing and promoting successful efforts in states like Kerala, the government hopes to strengthen skill development and education outcomes across India.
