Recently, a 13-year-old boy was found hiding in the wheel of a plane traveling from Kabul to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport without a visa or ticket. After security checks, he was sent back to Kabul. This incident is reminiscent of the dangerous incidents in 1996 and 2015 when people risked their lives trying to travel abroad.
Many people dream of traveling by plane, but some risk their lives to travel without a visa or ticket. One such incident came to light on Sunday when a 13-year-old boy from Afghanistan managed to travel from Kabul to Delhi by hiding inside the wheel of an airplane.
This incident reminds us of dangerous stories of people risking their lives to travel abroad in similar ways. In fact, a child hid in the landing gear on a Kam Airlines flight from Kabul.
When the plane landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, airline staff spotted him near the plane and immediately handed him over to the CISF. During the investigation, the boy said he had sneaked in just out of curiosity. A small red speaker was also found on him.
Child sent back to KabulThe plane was cleared after security checks. The child was sent back to Kabul that afternoon. This incident bears similarities to the 1996 incident in which two brothers from Punjab, Pradeep Saini and Vijay Saini, attempted to escape to London from Delhi airport by hiding inside the wheel of a British Airways flight.
Both were accused of being associated with a separatist organization and had no visas or money. The brothers hid in the nose wheel well of the plane. The journey was extremely dangerous, and at an altitude of 35,000 feet, temperatures could drop to minus 60 degrees and oxygen levels were very low.
Death of a brotherHowever, Vijay Saini died during the flight and his body fell from the plane. Another brother, Pradeep Saini, somehow survived the 10-hour journey. He was picked up unconscious from the runway at London Heathrow Airport and taken to a hospital.
Doctors said his survival, despite hypothermia and oxygen deprivation, was nothing short of miraculous. After a lengthy legal battle, Pradeep was granted permission to stay in the UK, where he is now settled.
A major incident occurred in 2015A similar incident occurred in 2015, when Themba Kabeka and his friend Carlito Vale stowed away on a flight from Johannesburg to London. Kabeka survived after becoming entangled in wires inside the plane, but was seriously injured. His friend, Carlito Vale, fell to his death. This incident was later made into a documentary titled "The Man Who Fell from the Sky."
