A chilling murder case has emerged from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where a woman, determined to marry for the third time, allegedly conspired with her lover to kill her husband. The incident took place in the Pathri police station area, where police have now arrested both the woman and her boyfriend.
The accused, Reena (36), was married to Pradeep Kumar (48), an e-rickshaw driver. This was Reena’s second marriage—her first husband had reportedly died of illness. However, she soon began an affair with a local man named Salekh and saw her current husband as an obstacle to her desires. Determined to remove him, she plotted with Salekh to end Pradeep’s life.
Murder and Cover-Up Attempt
According to police, Pradeep was strangled to death with a towel (gamchha), and his body was dumped in a mango orchard in Kishanpur village. The grim discovery was made on July 14, and a murder case was registered based on a complaint by Pradeep’s nephew, Mangeram.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Under orders from SSP Pramod Singh Dobal, a police team analyzed mobile phone call details and received tip-offs that raised suspicion about Reena’s involvement. Investigators noted that Salekh had been missing since the day of the murder and that his phone was switched off.
When Reena was taken into custody and questioned, she confessed to the crime, admitting to her illicit relationship and the plot to kill her husband. Based on her confession, police arrested Salekh near Laksar railway station. The towel used in the murder was also recovered.
