Prime Video has dropped the first official trailer for Harlan Coben's Lazarus - and it's already being called one of the most intriguing series of the year.
The six-part thriller will premiere worldwide on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, bringing together Oscar-nominated Bill Nighy and Peaky Blindersstar Sam Claflin in a story that blends cold-case crime with a chilling ghostly twist.
Created by best-selling author Harlan Coben alongside BAFTA-winner Danny Brocklehurst, the drama follows Joel Lazarus (Claflin), who returns to his family home after the apparent suicide of his father, Dr Jonathan Lazarus (Nighy). Once back, Joel begins to experience disturbing visions that can't be explained, pulling him into the shadows of his past and linking him to a string of unsolved murders - as well as the brutal killing of his sister 25 years earlier.
"I thought, 'I could write this as a novel, but I'm seeing it as a TV series.' It's a little more of a ghost story, very visual," Coben told Radio Times, hinting at a darker and more supernatural tone than many of his previous thrillers.
The cast features Alexandra Roach (No Offence) as Joel's sister Jenna Lazarus, Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead) as Detective Alison Brown, David Fynn (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe) as Seth McGovern and Karla Crome (The Rig) as Bella Catton. Rising actor Ewan Horrocks plays a younger Joel in flashbacks, with Roisin Gallagher and Curtis Tennant among the supporting roles.
Filming took place in Manchester and along the coast in Morecambe, giving the production a mix of urban grit and atmospheric seaside isolation. Wayne Che Yip (The Rings of Power, Fallout) directs the opening episodes and also serves as executive producer, while Matt Strevens (Doctor Who) produced.
Coben's name has become synonymous with twisty, bingeable thrillers. The American author has sold more than 90 million books worldwide, with his novels translated into 46 languages. He remains the only writer to have won the Edgar, Shamus and Anthony Awards for crime fiction.
Television has only expanded his reach: The Stranger, Stay Close and Fool Me Once have all become major hits on Netflix. But Lazarus marks his next big step, an original story conceived directly for the screen rather than adapted from a novel.
Audiences can expect the hallmarks of a Coben mystery - unresolved crimes resurfacing, past tragedies that refuse to stay buried, and a protagonist whose search for truth puts him in danger - but the supernatural edge makes Lazarus stand apart.
All six episodes of Harlan Coben's Lazarus will launch together on Prime Video on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Quay Street Productions, in association with Final Twist Productions. Executive producers include Harlan Coben, Danny Brocklehurst, Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, Sam Claflin and Wayne Che Yip.
