Piers Morgan has criticised the decision to award a victory over , calling the margin of the win "ridiculous". He also suggested that a draw would have been more appropriate. The 35-year-old won the fight with all judges scoring it 116-112.
The rivalry between the two fighters dates back to the 1990s when their fathers engaged in two memorable bouts that captivated the nation. However, neither Eubank Jr nor Benn managed to land a decisive knockout blow at the Stadium, resulting in the fight going the distance. In a surprising move, following a long falling-out between the two, Eubank Jr was accompanied by his father, Chris Eubank Sr, to the ring, which left spectators stunned.
later expressed his shock at the judges' decision on social media, posting: "What? All three judges said it was 116-112?!!!! That's ridiculous. Fight was way closer than that, a draw would have been fairer result."
Eddie Hearn, the boss of Matchroom, also found Eubank Jr's clear victory surprising, but praised Benn. Despite previously failing a drugs test, which Benn maintains his innocence over, and facing boos from some sections of the crowd, Hearn claimed the star had "won the hearts of everybody".
"I don't see Chris Eubank winning that fight by four rounds at all but forget that - unbelievable respect for both men," Hearn said.
"I could not be prouder of Conor Benn for what he has been through and the heart he has showed. Nigel Benn was the people's champion, tonight Conor Benn became the people's champion. He won the hearts of everybody who tuned in."

Reflecting on the family legacy and his victory, Eubank Jr said: "First of all, I thank the one above. I knew I could do that, I just needed someone to bring that out of me and I didn't think that he would be the guy to do that.
"The fact our fathers did it years ago brings out a different spirit into you and that's what we showed here tonight. I'm happy to have this man [Eubank Sr] back with me. We upheld the family name - onwards and upwards."
Addressing the factors that may have played a part in the night's outcome, Benn said: "Fourteen months out of the ring played a factor, that would be the only thing - inactivity. I felt like it was a close fight. I'm not going to say 'yeah I should have won that', I've got to watch it back. It was close."
This victory takes Eubank Jr's record to 35 wins from 38 fights. On the other hand, Benn suffered his first defeat in 24 professional bouts.
