A British doctor has saved a toddler who was choking to death on a hairclip. The two-year-old girl was on the point of becoming unconscious in the terrifying incident while she was out walking with her parents in Majorca.
Two police officers tried to help her, together with a doctor from the UK who just happened to be in the area. They were able to remove the clip which was stuck in her throat and save her life.
The child was with her parents in Calle Blanquerna, Valldemossa, a village on the Spanish island.
She removed a clip she was wearing in her hair, put it in her mouth and swallowed it. But the object got stuck in her throat and she started to choke and suffocate.
The girl's desperate parents couldn't remove the clip and called for help "in absolute panic". Two police officers on patrol nearby and a British doctor rushed to their aid.
Eventually, the doctor was able to remove the object and the girl recovered, suffering only a few small cuts to her mouth and throat to the relief of her family, who are from Slovakia.
An ambulance arrived at the scene soon after and confirmed the little girl was out of danger. It is understood the doctor was also on holiday. He has not been named.
The incident happened outside Bar Sa Foganya, Calle Blanquerna, which was packed with customers at the time. Staff saw the family panicking and called the emergency services.
Once the clip was out, a doctor from a local health centre checked the girl over and confirmed she was well.
