Dog owners often have to tolerate a variety of peculiar behaviours from their pets, ranging from rolling in foul-smelling substances to digging and chewing shoes. Occasionally, they may also bring their owners items in their mouths, whether it's a toy for them to play with or some other 'gift' they believe you might appreciate.
However, one dog owner was utterly flabbergasted when they noticed something odd protruding from their pet's mouth - particularly after identifying what it actually was. A video posted on the Rescued Animals US TikTok page shows a woman instructing her Weimaraner to "drop" what he has in his mouth.
Two tiny feet and a tail can be seen in the corner of the dog's mouth, but it's not yet clear what it is.
The owner warns the dog, named Andy, that she'll "never let him" into the garden again. Despite this, Andy continues to look guilty and ignores his owner's request to drop what he has in his mouth.
When she mentions a "treat", suggesting a possible "trade", Andy does glance up at his owner with large eyes - but still refuses to release his grip.
So the woman takes Andy outside, where she eventually discovers a nest of tiny bunny rabbits - and finally understands what her dog has in his mouth - a tiny rabbit.
She finally manages to extract the rabbit from her dog's mouth, noting that the creature is "slobbery but totally unharmed". She apologises to the tiny rabbit before returning it to the nest, where the animal's mother is hiding with the rest of her offspring.
"He crawled back in there, so I think he's OK," she said. Following the incident, she decided to erect a barrier around the nest in her garden to protect them from other animals.
In the comments section, viewers were initially confused, thinking the dog had a spider in his mouth. "At the start I thought it was a spider," one person admitted, accompanied by a crying emoji.
"First I saw that [and thought] it was a spider," another agreed.
Others found the video endearing, with one viewer commenting: "Adorable! The entire process," and another adding: "Thank you for saving the little one."
If your dog has had an animal in their mouth, it's crucial to consult a vet to rule out infection or toxin exposure. It's also important to closely monitor their behaviour, ensuring they aren't acting unusually or being sick.
