Fruit flies can be a nuisance in your kitchen and you might not like the idea of them getting to your fruit. In warmer weather, you'll often see these tiny flies flying around your fruit bowl.
Instead of swatting them away and hoping they'll stay gone, there's some simple methods you can use at home to make sure they're gone permanently.
According to Reader's Digest, the flies are likely on your groceries when you bring your shopping home.
It says that once these flies get into your home, their breeding process starts almost as soon as they land, laying eggs underneath the surface of your precious produce.
Female fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs at a time, which can hatch within just 24 hours. But don't worry, there's one method you can use to get rid of these pesky flies.
Reader's Digest says: "Don't have any apple cider vinegar handy? Try using the rotten fruit that's attracting them in the first place.
"Just put some chopped fruit that's past its prime in a bowl. Tightly cover the bowl with plastic wrap and secure with a rubber band.
"Using a toothpick, poke a few holes in the plastic. The holes should be large enough for fruit flies to crawl in but small enough to keep them from getting out.
"Looking for other ways to get rid of rotten fruit? You might want to learn how to compost."
Another tip is to not leave your fruit on counter tops where the flies can easily get to it.
Instead, you could keep it in your fridge which will mean it's locked away from any fruit flies.
By following these simple methods, you can ensure you won't have to deal with dozens of these tiny flies trying to get at your fresh fruit.
