A travel vlogger who has visited every country in Africa and all 197 countries in the world shared his least favourite African destination. Drew Binsky is known for "wild adventures in faraway places" on his hugely popular YouTube channel with 5.28million subscribers.
However, he revealed that he ended up in a police chase, two brawls and was threatened with a knife on his first morning in Chad. Although he had planned to stay for three nights, he left within a day and a half after the scary encounters. In a video reviewing all 54 countries, Drew said the capital N'Djamena was "all dirt roads", adding: "It's so dusty you can't even breathe." He said: "People are very hostile. I just didn't get good vibes at all from Chad."
In his orginal post in 2018, the vlogger explained he had some of the "worst days" of his life in N'Djamena, where he had a "miserable time".
He wrote: "Never in my life have I been more scared, threatened, or attacked (both verbally and physically) than in this hot, dusty, beaten-down deserted city."
His disastrous first morning started after Drew hopped on a motorbike taxi behind his friend. He said he was caught in a high-speed police chase because it turned out the bike had been stolen by the driver. A fight broke out after the driver stopped.
"I was in a disastrous police chase on a motorbike and I also was attacked by a dozen people for taking 1 photo inside a minibus," he claimed.
It turned out the blogger took a photo of a child without permission, which led to a brawl. Then he said he was threatened with a knife, but his friend came to his rescue and pushed people away.
In the video ranking all 54 countries in Africa, Drew said: "I just didn't get any good feeling from the country of Chad. I hated it so much that I left early."
In a separate video the blogger admitted that he doesn't "hate" Chad, realising that unlucky situations can make or break an experience in any country. He said he would go back to see some festivals and rock formations, but that he is not in any hurry.
Chad is a landlocked country south of Libya. The Foreign Office advises against travel to some regions and against all but essential travel to the rest of the country, including the capital, N'Djamena.
