Meghan Markle has made a surprise move today by writing an article for a popular US magazine. The Duchess of Sussex has produced an article for Town and Country magazine after interviewing Altadena Girls Founder, Avery Colvert.
The duchess, 44, previously met Avery earlier this year after the teenager set up Altadena Girls - an organisation that helped provide young women with beauty and other personal supplies they may have needed amid the Californian wildfire crisis. Meghan was among those to help the organisation, donating both supplies and her time.
Now, the duchess has interviewed Avery and published an article for Town & Country.
In her prologue, the Duchess praised the 14-year-old and spoke about how she managed to open her own community centre in Pasadena for her charity after her idea went viral on social media during the devastating fires.
Meghan wrote: "Earlier this year, the world looked on in horror as fires ravaged neighbourhoods across Los Angeles. The question that unified us all-how can I help?-was more complicated than it seemed. Ways to get involved were evolving in real time, and there were many people in need.
She went on to note how Avery voiced a need "specific to young girls, putting out a call for clothing, beauty products, and small essentials that would 'help my friends feel confident and like themselves again.'"
The Duchess asked the teenager and her mother, Lauren Sandidge, various questions, including about the thoughts going through and the hardest part of leaving their home during the emergency.
She said she was "so moved" by the way Avert mobilised people and that it was "amazing to watch" their original idea turn into something filling a need that was "so much greater".
She also asked about what it's like worknig as a "mother-daughter" team, a subject close to Meghan's heart, who revealed her hope for her own daughter, Princess Lilibet.
Meghan said: "You never thought your work would grow to be this big. And even if it hadn't, it still would have been meaningful and made an impact.
"My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I'll be the proudest mom."
