Legendary rock radio DJ, Pierre Robert, has died at the age of 70. The 93.3 WMMR star, who has been with the station since 1981, was found dead inside his home on Wednesday (October 29), Beasley Media Group has confirmed. No cause of death has been revealed as of yet.
The news was confirmed by the station's owners, Beasley Media Group's Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Beasley, who said: "We all have heavy hearts today. Pierre's unwavering love for music and his deep connection with listeners made him one of radio's most enduring and beloved voices. He will be greatly missed."
The Preston and Steve Show from the same station paid tribute on their Instagram account. Tagging Pierre's account, they shared an image of the Philadelphia icon standing on a stage in front of a crowd with his arms outstretched. The captioned the post: "It breaks our hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend Pierre Robert.
"Pierre's voice has been woven into the fabric of Philadelphia for more than 40 years. WMMR was his pulpit, and he preached the gospel of rock n' roll, and gave us all common ground to dance on.
"In good times, his optimism was infectious, and on tough days, his words offered familiar comfort to every Good Citizen. Pierre opened his arms to anyone who wanted to come along for the ride, insisting that WMMR is Everything That Rocks! And he lived it," they concluded.
Tributes flooded in from devastated fans who took to the comments to share their sadness. One user penned: "I can't believe this is real. I grew with the sound of his voice, as did millions of other Philadelphians. Sad day. Safe travels to a legend and friend."
"I've just been in shock for the last couple of hours. I can't imagine what you all are going through right now. Sending love your way," another penned.
A third chimed in: "Absolutely heartbroken to hear about the passing of not just a Philadelphia legend, but an absolute icon of radio, Pierre Robert. There were many days when things were heavy and life was hard, but hearing Pierre's voice over the airwaves always brought a sense of peace to those turbulent times.
"He will be so greatly missed not just for his presence on WMMR but for being one of the most pure-hearted individuals to ever exist on this mortal plane. God bless Pierre Robert. To paraphrase the Grateful Dead: What a long, strange, and wonderful trip it's been ..."
A fourth added: "I had to read this post twice to believe what I was seeing. I haven't lived in the Philly area for 11 years, but if there was one thing you could count on was Pierre Robert spreading positivity and rock and roll on WMMR! RIP good citizen, for you made the world a better place."
