Ryanair emergency as 'bomb threat' reported on plane with mid-air panic

There are fears a person could be carrying a bomb aboard a Ryanair flight currently stationed at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) in Belgium. The airport said in a statement this shortly before 11am this morning, local time, "bomb threat was triggered on board a plane that landed at Charleroi airport".

"A security perimeter was set up around the aircraft, necessitating the closure of the runway and therefore the interruption of operations," it added.

"The relevant authorities have taken over. We will keep you informed of further developments."

A 500-metre security perimetre had been set up by emergency services, 7sur7 reports.

A statement from Ryanair suggested the flight had come from Faro, a city in Portugal's southern Algarve region, rather than Porto (in the northwest).

It read: "Ryanair was informed of a security threat on flight FR6313 from Faro to Brussels Charleroi today, 13th May. The aircraft landed normally at Charleroi as planned. Passengers have been disembarked and the aircraft is being prepared for return to service."

Charleroi Airport has been approached via email for further comment, and confirmation of where the flight took off from.
