Stephen Hendry names five best snooker players of all time but snubs himself

star has named the best five players of all time, but remarkably left himself out. The Scottish ace has won a sensational seven titles and is widely considered one of the best potters of his generation.

Hendry made his debut as a professional in 1985 and has tasted some of the sport's finest achievements ever since. Alongside his seven world championship titles, Hendry has competed in 57 ranking finals, winning a stunning 36 of them.

However, when quizzed on who he thought the Mount Rushmore figures of snooker are, Hendry didn't make any room for himself. Speaking on the , Hendry was granted just five spots to build his Hall of Fame. He named as the undisputed GOAT, before adding: "It's very close between and , I'd prefer to have them joint-second.

"I'll go with Mark just because of his recent record against John at the Crucible. He is a freak of nature, he has the best temperament of any sportsman I have seen. He maybe hasn't got the cue power of others, but he has great touch, and he is just a brilliant potter."

Hendry continued: "Third is John - maybe the greatest match-player of all time," said Hendry, who declined to name himself among the top five. If I had to pick a player to clear up from 50 behind with five reds left, I'd take John. He has made over 1,000 centuries and his scoring is phenomenal. I'll put Ronnie O'Sullivan top, obviously because of the success he has had, but also for his cue ball control which is the best I've ever seen."

Fourth in Hendry's list was , leaving just one spot in the coveted top five. The King of the Crucible was toying between current world No.1 Judd Trump and fellow six-time world champion, Steve Davis. Explaining his decision, he stated: "In fifth could be Judd Trump because of what he has won and his centuries, but he only has one world title. So I'm going for Steve Davis based on his utter domination of the 1980s."

Before adding: "People will say that the players weren't as good back then, but I don't care. He'd still be in the top 16 today. He was the ultimate winning machine and I learned a lot from him." But still not enough to earn a place in his very own all-time top-five list though!
