The Traitors star's life changing health battle after The Biggest Loser's final episode

A star of the reality series The Biggest Loser now faces a life changing health battle after suffering a heart attack after the show's filming concluded.

Launching on Netflix today (August 15) is a new docuseries delving into the behind-the-scenes of the show.

Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser provides an insider's view of the popular reality TV competition that aired for 18 seasons from 2004 to 2016, with a revival attempt in 2020.

The three-part series uncovers the highs, lows, and complexities during the show's run. It includes interviews with former contestants, producers, and health professionals who were part of the show's creation.

The series scrutinises the show's approach to transformation, the support systems provided, and the unique challenges of producing reality television.

It explores how the experience impacted the lives of those involved long after the cameras stopped rolling, prompting viewers to consider the balance between entertainment and well-being, and what it truly means to pursue lasting change.

One individual who was involved throughout the show's entire run and features prominently in the Netflix documentary is Bob Harper, reports the Mirror.

Bob had been a celebrity trainer since the 1990s and was eventually recruited to appear on the programme.

He was tasked with guiding numerous contestants through their fitness routines.

This was a position he held for 10 years before being elevated to presenter of the show for its final two series, including its comeback in 2020.

Nevertheless, one element that receives brief coverage in the new Netflix documentary but lacks extensive detail is that a year following The Biggest Loser's original run conclusion, Bob experienced a life-threatening heart attack at age 52 whilst exercising.

Speaking to NBC news almost a year following the episode, he revealed: "On February 12 2017 I was in the gym, the next thing I knew I woke up in a hospital two days later being told that I had a heart attack and that I immediately went into cardiac arrest. Talk about a life-changing experience."

He was subsequently diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia, an inherited disorder that triggers elevated LDL cholesterol levels and heightens the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes.

This launched him into his own health struggle and fresh challenges as he was so publicly recognised as an embodiment of wellness.

He explained to NBC: "I've always been a person that was so driven and type A and I have my routine, which I love, and when all of that was taken away from me and my whole identity of fitness was taken away.

"I went through an identity crisis I didn't know who I was and it became a journey for me. I was going through this new life of mine and having to rediscover different sides of me. It was really hard. It was really emotional; I went through a lot of depression because of it."

His health struggle continues to this day, something that became evident during Bob's stint on the US version of The Traitors last year.

He featured during the third season of the programme as a participant.

In the fourth episode of the series, alongside his fellow celebrities, he was challenged with transporting Easter Island replica statues up a hill onto one of 10 pedestals.

Completing this before the clock ran down would secure them immunity from elimination.

During the task, Bob became breathless and couldn't finish the challenge without assistance from his co-stars.

The ordeal left him tearful and deeply moved.

Speaking to the cameras later, he confessed: "This mission is more difficult than I had ever imagined. I have always imagined myself especially when it comes to health and fitness that I can do anything. I am invincible. And now here I am on this hill and I'm just doing the best I can and I'm realising that I can't do it.

"When I had a heart attack, seven years ago, it kicked my a**. I had less than a 20% chance of surviving and I did. And realising that I have to redefine who I am, it's just really hard."
