BBC radio host Zoe Ball has shared a rare look into her family life, as she reflected on how the dynamic of her relationship with her son has changed down the years.
Over the years, Zoe has become one of the most recognised voices in radio thanks to her long standing connection with the BBC, but away from her broadcasting career, she has recently opened up about her relationship with her eldest child, Woody.
Born in 2000 when Zoe's time on Radio 1 Breakfast was coming to and end, she said that it was when her eldest turned 15 that their relationship began to change.
Reflecting on her relationship with her son, Zoe told the Parenting Hell podcast: "He's always talked to me about emotional stuff."
Elaborating further, she added: "That happened from when he was about 15, he would be like 'mum, can we have a chat?' He's always had that. I feel really blessed that he turns to me."
However, as podcast host and comedian Rob Beckett asked what had changed in her relationship with her son in order for him to start opening up more, Zoe revealed that she feels that she had previously failed.
She said: "I think until that point, I probably massively failed as a mother in fact that I was always working. So we always had someone amazing looking after him."
While she gave a candid insight into how her relationship with her son has changed over the last 10 years. Now in his 20's, Woody looks set to be following in his dad, Norman Cook's (aka Fatboy Slim) footsteps as he has embarked on a career in DJing in recent years.
After meeting Norman in the summer of 1998 during a BBC Radio 1 trip to Ibiza, it was only a year later that the pair tied the knot during a ceremony held at Babington House in Somerset. Since then, they have gone on to have two children Woody and Nelly, who was born in 2010.
Zoe and Norman announced their separation in September 2016 after 18 years together.
Away from her raising her two children alongside Norman, Zoe continues to be an ever present on the airwaves after initially stepping back from the industry last December. She made her return to BBC Radio 2 in May when she earned her own afternoon slot on the channel.
Announcing her departure from the station last year, she said: "After six incredible years, it's time to step away from the very early mornings and focus on family." The decision came after the sad passing of her mum, Julia.
