Marking the 100th birth anniversary of Professor M.S. Swaminathan—celebrated agricultural scientist and pioneer of India’s food security—the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) will organise the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference from 7–9 August 2025 in New Delhi. In partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, ICAR, and NAAS, the event will centre on the theme “Evergreen Revolution – The Pathway to Bio happiness”.
Announcing the conference, Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), praised Prof. Swaminathan’s transformative role in turning India from a food-deficient to a food-surplus nation, calling him “a brave son of India” whose leadership reshaped the nation’s agricultural landscape. The conference aims to carry forward his legacy by shaping a roadmap for future Indian agriculture, with special emphasis on empowering women in the sector.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiwill open the conference and unveil a commemorative coin and stamp in tribute to Prof. M.S. Swaminathan. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chair of MSSRF, emphasized its global importance, while Dr. C. Viswanathan of ICAR-IARI reflected on his transformative legacy. Dr. Ashok Singh of NAAS said, “To the hungry, food is God—and Prof. Swaminathan was that God for millions.”
The three-day event will address critical themes: conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agriculture; inclusive, technology-driven livelihood solutions; and youth, women, and community engagement. Bringing together scientists, policymakers, and development professionals from around the world, the conference will reaffirm the commitment to a sustainable, equitable, and hunger-free future—guided by the principles of the Evergreen Revolution and the vision of bio happiness.
