Prayagraj: A major fire broke out in the building of the Directorate of Education (Shiksha Nideshalaya), Patthar Building, under the limits of Civil Lines police station on Sunday morning. Two fire tenders took around two hours to douse the flames. Several important files were reduced to ashes.
Chief fire officer (Prayagraj) RK Pandey told TOI that the fire control room on Sunday morning received information that a major fire broke out in room numbers 14 and 15 of the building of the Directorate of Education and gutted scores of files. No casualties were reported.
"Upon being alerted, three fire tenders were immediately pressed into service to control the fire," he said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident. Fortunately there was no one in the office as it was closed for Sunday.
The CFO, meanwhile, said, "The reason behind the fire is still unknown, and teams of the fire and police department are probing the case thoroughly." The timely intervention of the fire department managed to contain the fire, he said.
A guard alerted the officials of the directorate about the fire at around 8am after which the officials alerted the fire department.
