SURAT: The city police have formed multiple teams to trace a 23-year-old woman teacher who allegedly abducted her 11-year-old student in Surat on Friday. The teacher taught the boy at a school as well as in a tuition class and both lived in the same housing society in Magob area under Puna police station .

Based on a complaint filed by the boy's father, Puna police station filed an abduction complaint under BNS 137 (2). The police are investigating all possible angles behind the alleged abduction.

According to the complaint by the boys' father, he lives with his wife and two sons (aged 11 and 7) in Magob area. The elder son studies in Class 5 at a school in Parvat Patiya area where the accused teacher works.

While the teacher lived on the third floor of the building, the boy's family lives on the second floor in the same society. The boy's family hails from Rajasthan, while the teacher is a native of Mehsana. The teacher used to give tuition to the boy for the last three years.

The boy had a vacation at school for the last 10 days, but his tuition class was going on. On Friday afternoon, the boy went to play in the society but did not return home. His family then started searching for him.

They started checking CCTVs in the area and found him with the teacher on a CCTV of a housing society opposite their school. Based on this, the boy's family went to the teacher's home and asked her family members about her. They told the boys' family that her phone was switched off and she had left home around 2pm.

When the boy could not be found, the family finally approached Puna police station in the wee hours of Saturday.

DCP (Zone-1) Alok Kumar said, "We have made several teams to investigate this case. They were last traced on CCTV at Surat railway station around 5pm on Friday. While one team is doing technical analysis, another team is talking to the friends of the teacher."

He said police personnel are also in touch with the family members of both the teacher and the student to understand why they left together. "We have also deployed personnel who are specialists in finding missing persons. We are investigating all angles in the abduction case given the fact that their age gap is huge,'' said the DCP.

Inspector V M Desai of Puna police station said, "The accused switched off her phone some time after the abduction. We saw bags with both in the CCTV footage. We are also investigating if there is anyone else involved in this case."
