Kanpur: The district administration has finalised the Chandra Shekhar Azad Agricultural University ground as the public meeting venue for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The district authorities took this decision on Friday after an inspection by chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and director-general of police Prashant Kumar.
Earlier, the administration had proposed to the PM's public meeting at the Railway ground in Nirala Nagar its main considerations were the PM's security and the capacity to accommodate a large crowd at the Railway ground.
The officials' first choice was the Railway ground, and MPs and MLAs had also inspected the site and given their consent. However, upon reviewing the entire programme, it became apparent that security for the PM might be a significant issue.
The CSA ground is smaller compared to the Railway ground, and the crowd could be managed with greater ease there.
From a security perspective, the ground is secured from all sides and only requires cleaning and the erection of a pandal. The management of the prime minister's security should be straightforward, requiring just one or two traffic diversions for a short period, the district officials said.
The prime minister is scheduled to be in Kanpur to inaugurate the Narya Ganj Metro station and then travel to Geeta Nagar station by Metro.
