Since the release of its trailer on social media, Akshay Kumar’s 'Housefull 5' has created quite a buzz. Scheduled for a June 6 theatrical release, this comedy-drama promises an entertaining mix of humor and suspense. The story unfolds on a cruise ship, where a billionaire’s contested inheritance sparks a whirlwind of chaos, comedy, and even murder. Interestingly, the filming experience matched the excitement of the plot. Director Tarun Mansukhani recently recounted a memorable incident during the cruise shoot when the ship’s captain raised objections, adding an unexpected twist to the production.
Challenges of Filming on a Cruise Ship
Mansukhani spoke about the challenges of filming 'Housefull 5' on a cruise ship over 40 days. He emphasized the need to memorize the entire layout of the ship to avoid being in the wrong place during shooting. Additionally, maintaining balance while filming was difficult due to the ship’s movement, and the constantly changing weather added to the complexity of the shoot.
Storm Forces Halt in Filming
Mansukhani described how stormy weather severely disrupted the filming of 'Housefull 5', during a chat with Mid-day. During the storm, people found it difficult to stand, and cameras were at risk of being blown away. Due to these safety concerns, the captain ordered the filming to be stopped on the second day of the storm.
Managing a Star-Studded Ensemble
'Housefull 5' features an ensemble of 19 prominent actors, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff, which presented a significant challenge for director Tarun Mansukhani. Unlike his previous projects like 'Dostana' and 'Drive' that had smaller casts, Mansukhani carefully structured the screenplay to give each actor ample opportunity to shine on screen.
Casting Philosophy and Approach
Returning to direction after six years, Mansukhani shared that his casting approach involves offering roles to big stars only if the characters are well-developed during the writing process. He believes there is little value in casting a star for just one or two scenes and made a conscious decision to approach only those actors whose characters are prominent in the story.
Energetic Atmosphere on Set
He added that the presence of Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff on the 'Housefull 5' set energized the entire crew, with their lively and unexpected antics catching everyone off guard.
Star-Studded Cast
'Housefull 5', produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, boasts an impressive cast that includes Nana Patekar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Panday, Nikitin Dheer, Johnny Lever, Dino Morea, Shreyas Talpade, and Fardeen Khan.
