'I feel so alive': Danish woman reveals the real reason she moved to India

Send Push
We all know that feeling– waking up, going to work, meeting friends, coming back home... and still wondering if this is it. That quiet frustration, the itch for something more exciting, something meaningful. While most of us brush it off and keep going, one woman actually acted on it.

Astrid Esmeralda , a young woman from Denmark, is gaining attention on Instagram for doing what many only dream of– leaving behind a comfortable life to explore the unknown. Tired of the monotony in her hometown, she made a spontaneous decision to move to India. No plan. No backup. Just a desire to feel alive again. And now, ten months later, she says it’s the best decision she’s ever made.

“There was nothing left for me in Copenhagen”

Astrid had everything most people would consider ideal– an apartment in the heart of Copenhagen, a job she liked, and great friends. But over time, the charm wore off. The city began to feel too predictable, too quiet. “I needed a change. It felt like there was nothing left for me in Copenhagen,” she wrote on Instagram. “I loved my job, my apartment, my friends, but I was so bored of the city…”

Even the weather had started to weigh on her mood

“It’s only fun in the summer! The rest of the time, we’re all just waiting for summer, and it feels like such a sleepy place,” she added. That’s when she made the call that would change everything. “Quit everything, sold it all, and moved to India.”

A country that changed everything

Since arriving in India, Astrid has travelled across various cities– each one offering a new experience and teaching her something different. From the peaceful banks of Rishikesh to the beaches of Goa and the chaos of Mumbai, her journey has been anything but boring. “Now in India, I feel soooo alive!!!! India has opened my eyes to so much,” she shared.

It wasn’t just the change in surroundings– it was the energy, the unpredictability, the mix of cultures and people that made her feel completely awake again. “First of all, I’ve fallen in love with a country that’s so diverse, wild, and beautiful. I’ve fallen in love with the culture, the people, and the nature.”

More than a trip, it became a transformation

What started as a break from routine turned into something far more personal. The experience of living in a completely different environment helped Astrid reconnect with herself in ways she hadn’t expected. “India has shown me new sides of myself, awakened my dreams, and given me trust in my journey. It’s also shown me the real effects of karma,” she wrote. The freedom to slow down, reflect, and absorb everything around her gave her a new kind of confidence, and clarity.

What’s next for Astrid?

With ten months already behind her, Astrid is getting ready to head back to Europe for the summer. But she’s not saying goodbye to India just yet. She’s already planning to return after the monsoon season. “I’m grateful for everything– most of all, the privilege to be able to travel, live abroad, and explore the world.”

Her story, shared through reels and posts on Instagram, has resonated with thousands, especially those stuck in routines and craving something different. One of her videos has already crossed over 2.5 lakh views– proof that her story is inspiring others to rethink what really makes them feel alive. Sometimes, the most uncertain path turns out to be the most rewarding. For Astrid, that path began with one bold decision– and led her to a place that finally felt right.
