Rockstar Games ends support for user-generated content videos on its website

In a dramatic change, Rockstar Games confirmed that from April 15, 2025, onwards, users are unable to upload user-generated content (UGC) videos on the official Rockstar Games website through the Rockstar Editor . The move effectively brings an end to an era for gamers who used the tool to share their in-game content with the broader gaming community. Existing uploaded videos are no longer available as well.

End of UGC video upload feature on Rockstar Games website

As of April 15, 2025, Rockstar Games has officially discontinued the feature of uploading UGC videos to its site through the Rockstar Editor, a game feature in titles such as GTA V that enabled players to record, edit, and share their own custom video content. The feature, once a favorite method for players to share their cinematic productions and gameplay, is no longer supported.

The company has assured that videos uploaded prior to the update are now not available, that is, content that was once shared through Rockstar's platform is also lost. This is a big shift in Rockstar's community-oriented content, specifically video sharing.

Why was the content removed and what does it mean for the players?

Although Rockstar has not explicitly stated the reason behind this change, it would appear to be part of a larger trend in the gaming world for concentrating on bigger platforms such as YouTube and social media for sharing video content. Players will now have to resort to off-site locations to share and upload their creations, as the Rockstar Games website will no longer be an option for hosting UGC videos.

The timing of this decision has caused some speculation within the community. It may be part of a broader change in anticipation of the soon-to-be-released GTA 6, possibly introducing new tools and community features. Alternatively, this may be part of a general streamlining of Rockstar's content-sharing infrastructure.

The cessation of UGC video uploads is the culmination of a feature that was previously core to the Rockstar community. With video sharing now shifting away from the official Rockstar platform, fans will have to look for alternative methods of sharing their creative output. As Rockstar continues to refine its offerings, only time will tell whether this move is part of a greater change in how they interact with the community going forward.
