John Cena ’s recent heel turn at Elimination Chamber has taken WWE in a new direction. Since the beginning, he was known as the ultimate fan favorite, but now he has embraced a different role. His actions and promos have shown a shift in attitude, as he now seems more focused on himself rather than the fans.
With WrestleMania 41 coming up, Cena is set to face WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. His new attitude has made the rivalry even more intense. However, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash believes Cena’s change is not just for the story, he thinks Cena’s words show how he truly feels.
Kevin Nash on John Cena’s feelings
Kevin Nash recently talked about Cena’s change on his “Kliq This” podcast. He believes John Cena isn’t just playing a character, he’s expressing real emotions. Nash said:
"I think all of us, all the boys at some point, as the years go on and it gets towards the end of our runs, that you have like a feeling ... you got used and abused and when you're done man, they just put you out to pasture and so many guys have nothing to show for it."
He compared it to being in a long relationship, saying, "You've been married for 30 years with somebody and then one morning you get up and you've got separate sinks and you just look over, you go, 'I don't want to do this anymore' ... I don't think that resonates in two seconds and I think that's what this is. I think it's got to be a slow burn like that."
Nash believes Cena feels betrayed after spending years trying to make fans happy. He worked hard, won titles, and even created things like the Spinner Belt. But in the end, he felt like his efforts were never enough. Now, Cena has turned the tables and is using the fans the same way he thinks they used him.
Why did WWE never make John Cena turn into a Heel before
Nash also explained why WWE never made Cena a bad guy in the past.
"This is when they would do that, ‘Let’s go, Cena! Cena sucks!’ thing, and it was at its f***ing peak. I just said, ‘God, I’ve never in my life seen anything like this.’ John sold so much merchandise and did so much Make-A-Wish that it was impossible to turn him heel," Nash said.
Cena was one of WWE’s top stars, selling a lot of merchandise and working closely with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Making him a villain earlier could have hurt WWE’s business and his charity work.
John Cena’s new character has brought an interesting change to his career, but Kevin Nash thinks it might also be a way for him to express his real frustrations.
For years, Cena worked to entertain the fans, yet he was often met with mixed reactions. Now, as he prepares to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, he has fully embraced his new role. Whether this is just a storyline or something deeper, Cena’s heel turn has made WWE more interesting than ever.
