At least 11 people were stabbed Sunday night at a men’s shelter in Salem, Oregon. A male suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Officers responded around 7.15 pm (US time) to reports of multiple stabbings at the Union Gospel Mission Salem of Men's Mission, located at 777 Commercial Street Northeast.
The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the Salem police department. Till now Police have not revealed the identity or the motive behind the murder.
As a result of the incident, southbound Commercial Street at D Street Northeast is closed. Traffic is being diverted west on D Street to Front Street Northeast.
The men’s shelter, which opened in 2021, replaced an older facility and nearly doubled the shelter’s capacity, offering 284 beds in a 57,000-square-foot space.
