Send Push

Renault is gearing up to make a big impact in India with the launch of its hybrid models — the Duster Hybrid and the 7-seater Bigster Hybrid — blending performance, efficiency, and eco-friendliness.

Renault’s Electrification Strategy for India

With the growing demand for electric vehicles in India, Renault is poised to expand its footprint in the hybrid segment.
Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and MD of Renault India, recently confirmed that the company is actively working to bring hybrid technology to the Indian market, including range extender and series-hybrid systems, thanks to its collaboration with Nissan.

This strategy is aimed at providing eco-conscious, fuel-efficient options to Indian consumers while maintaining robust driving performance.

Renault Duster Hybrid: Power and Performance

Already available in European markets, the Duster Hybrid features:

  • Engine: 1.6L petrol engine

  • Petrol Output: 92 hp and 148 Nm torque

  • Electric Motor Output: 47 hp and 205 Nm torque

  • Combined Power: 139 hp

  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 10.1 seconds

Fuel Efficiency
  • Mileage: Up to 20 km/l (WLTP-certified)

  • Indian road conditions may slightly alter real-world efficiency but it is expected to remain highly economical.

Renault Bigster Hybrid: The 7-Seater Contender

The Bigster Hybrid promises even greater power and spaciousness:

  • Engine: 1.8L petrol engine

  • Petrol Output: 107 hp and 172 Nm torque

  • Electric Motor Output: 47 hp

  • Combined Power: 154 hp

  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds

Mileage and Efficiency
  • Fuel Efficiency: Rated up to 21.7 km/l (WLTP-certified)

  • A slightly larger 1.4kWh battery pack compared to the Duster Hybrid.

Why Renault’s Hybrid Models Could Succeed in India

With rising fuel prices, a shift towards greener vehicles, and a lack of extensive electric vehicle infrastructure, hybrid vehicles present a practical middle-ground for Indian consumers.
If priced competitively, the Duster Hybrid and Bigster Hybrid could carve out a strong position in India’s mid-size SUV segment, challenging the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
