Rain Likely in 40 Madhya Pradesh Districts on May 2–3; Heatwave Alert for Ratlam, Neemuch, and Mandsaur

Bhopal, April 30, 2025 — The weather in Madhya Pradesh continues to oscillate between intense summer heat and pre-monsoon showers, with a heatwave alert issued for April 30 in Ratlam, Neemuch, and Mandsaur, while rainfall is expected across nearly 40 districts on May 2 and 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Rain Forecast for Early May Across Key Districts

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in various parts of the state, including Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Gwalior, between May 2 and May 3, triggered by an active western disturbance expected to influence central India beginning May 2. The weather pattern is likely to last three days, bringing temporary relief from high temperatures in many regions.

As of Wednesday, the rainfall impact is expected to be limited to northeastern districts such as Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, and Anuppur, with scattered showers predicted. Other areas, particularly Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain, will continue to experience hot and dry conditions until the western disturbance becomes active.

Heatwave Conditions Continue in Western MP

Despite approaching rainfall, western parts of the state, especially Ratlam, Neemuch, and Mandsaur, are under a heatwave alert for April 30, with temperatures expected to reach or exceed 43°C. Similar heat conditions are prevailing in districts bordering Rajasthan and Gujarat, where dry westerly winds are amplifying the heat index.

On Tuesday, April 29, Shajapur recorded the state’s highest temperature at 43.6°C, followed closely by:

• Guna: 43.5°C

• Khajuraho: 43.4°C

• Ratlam: 43.2°C

• Dhar, Raisen, Narsinghpur: 43.0°C

• Sagar, Tikamgarh: 42.8°C

• Khandwa, Damoh: 42.5°C

• Khargone: 42.4°C

Tuesday’s Weather Highlights: Thunderstorms, Hail, and Sharp Drops in Temperature

On April 29, several districts witnessed dust storms and thunderstorms. Cities such as Seoni, Damoh, Singrauli, Anuppur, and Panna experienced gusty winds. Mandla reported hailfall, while others like Rewa, Katni, Shahdol, and Satna saw sudden changes in weather.

Malajkhand (Balaghat) recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 25.9°C, following an 11.2°C drop in a single day. In Sidhi, the mercury dropped by 4°C to 34.2°C. Other recorded temperatures include:

• Seoni: 38.2°C

• Mandla: 38.8°C
