Bicholim: A unanimous resolution to mark the buffer zone as per the regional plan 2020-21 was passed at the Mulgao village panchayat gram sabha on Sunday, led by sarpanch Manasi Kauthankar. The villagers were annoyed over the mining company’s continued night shifts despite their objections. They also demanded a joint site inspection by the company and govt officials before monsoon to address problems faced by the villagers during rains.
Villagers demanded the mining firm’s CSR funds be used for local development and urged the company to follow the regional plan 2020-21. They also said chief minister Pramod Sawant should prioritise solving the issues of the villagers.
Putulo Gad, a local said, “As the mining excavation has caused water to seep into homes, forcing residents to wear slippers indoors. Houses have developed cracks due to hectic level mining activity and neither the company nor govt is offering compensation. Panchayat authorities should conduct the survey houses affected by water seepage and notify the concerned departments.”
Leader of farmers association Prakash Parab said sarpanchs of mining-affected areas like Mayem, Mulgao, Piligao, Advalpal, Shirgao and others should unite and pass a resolution to divert CSR funds only for village development works.
Vasant Gad, president of Mulgao Nagarik Kruti Samiti, said that if the company does not stop night shifts, locals will halt night ore transport themselves.
Kauthankar said panchayat has fully extended its support to the villagers. She said mining company has been carrying out the night shifts despite a meeting with the North Goa collector to stop the night ore transportation, adding that they will not tolerate such action.
